LINCOLN COUNTY (WAOW) -- Lincoln County officers handed out their first ticket for texting and driving Sunday afternoon.
Police said a driver called 911 warning officers that another driver on Highway 51 had been swerving on the road, nearly hitting one of the barriers. When a deputy caught up to the driver and pulled her over, police said she didn't put up a fight.
"There's nothing worth responding to or letting someone know while you're driving that could cause a crash, injure yourself or somebody else or even kill somebody," said Lincoln County 911 Administrator Mark Handlin.
Police said they were glad to get the tip and fortunate to be able to get a deputy to the scene in time to catch the distracted driver. The deputy also gave the driver a citation for speeding, she was driving 74 MPH in a 65 MPH zone.
