Arrests made in drug, bomb bust


PORTAGE COUNTY (PRESS RELEASE) --As a result of the search of one residence approximately 1 ounce of cocaine was seized with an estimated street value of about $3000. About $900 in US currency was also seized along with other items associated with drug dealing.


Two Amherst men ages 27 and 21 are currently in custody on probation holds for the drug investigation. Both men will have charged requested for party to the crime of possession with intent to deliver cocaine.

As a result of the search on a second residence, items associated with the making of pipe bombs were found. IED's were recovered which included three metal pipes with caps on the ends and two glass containers with powder inside, one of the containers had a fuse attached.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Office bomb squad was notified and responded to the scene to handle the explosives. The metal pipe containers were found not to have any powder within and the glass containers were made safe.

A 20-year-old male is in custody on a probation hold for the manufacturing of these devices.

On Wednesday, February 2, 2011, after a several week investigation of drug dealing in the Amherst area, the Portage County Sheriff's Office executed two search warrants related to drug dealing in the Village of Amherst. The Portage County Special Response Team was utilized in the execution of the warrants. Assistance in the investigation was also given by members of the Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force, which included the Stevens Point Police Department, the Plover Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigations.
