Hundreds complain about new wireless phone company

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (AP) -- A new wireless phone company serving central Wisconsin has drawn an unusually large number of complaints.

Element Mobile was launched just a month ago. But already the company has drawn hundreds of complaints to state consumer protection officials.

Consumers say there are problems with dropped calls, roaming charges, text messages and voicemail. The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says it's received 369 written complaints about Element Mobile. That's more than a third of all the written complaints filed about telecommunication providers in 2010.

Element Mobile is based in Wisconsin Rapids and took over an eight-county service area previously managed by Alltel Wireless. The company tells the Journal Sentinel that it's had a few problems with the launch, but nothing out of the ordinary for a new service.
