MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -- We all know illegal drugs can be dangerous, but prescriptions can also be deadly in the wrong hands.
A Marshfield pharmacist says education about these drugs is crucial.
The Marshfield Area Parent Network hosted a meeting to talk about problem.
The organization says prescription drugs are abused more than cocaine, heroine and methamphetamine combined.
A recent survey showed about seven percent of high school students in Marshfield misused painkillers, as well as stimulants. The organization hopes to inform the community how dangerous these drugs are when misused.
"People tend to think that prescription drugs are safer than other drugs, because they're legal. You can get a prescription for them. They are safe when they're used as directed, but in many cases they're not used as directed and that is when the danger comes in," Pharmacist Twila Johnson said.
Marshfield Area Parent Network hosted the meeting. The group promotes healthy, drug-free lifestyles for teens.
