Pointer men prepare for big matchup against River Falls

(WAOW) - Before the season started, the eighth ranked UW-Stevens Point's men's basketball team set a goal of winning a conference title, but one team that may stand in their way of a WIAC crown is 10th ranked River Falls.

The Falcons beat the Pointers by 13 in the fifth game of the season and they currently lead Stevens Point by a game in the WIAC standings.

But with seven straight wins by an average of 30 points a game, the Pointers are ready to prove how far they've come in tomorrow's rematch at home.

"We were still trying to find our identity as a team. We didn't finish out the game too well, kind of let them run away with it," UWSP senior forward Louis Hurd said. "We're closing out games now, we know how to win and that should be the difference I think."

"It's hard to treat it just like any other game because the stakes are so high, but our goal at the beginning of the season was to win a conference championship and a win tomorrow would really build and get us closer to that step," UWSP senior forward Nick Krull said.

"They've been in big games like this before when the stakes are really high and there's a lot of hype so this is Quandt gym, this is where we've worked very hard and it's going to take a great effort by River Falls to come in here and beat us," UWSP head coach Bob Semling said.
