Valentine's Day in bloom

WAUSAU (WAOW)--Diamonds may be a girls best friend, but according to local florists fresh flowers can help your love bloom. What better way to say "Be Mine?" than with a beautiful bouquet?

Local florists said red roses are definitely the most popular Valentine's Day flower.

Denise Petrowski of Wausau Floral said she will make over 100 different arrangements for the special day. She's been a floral designer for close to 34 years.

"I like that I can be creative and do pretty much what I think looks good," she said.

Petrowski enjoys the creativity of floral designing. "A lot of times they ask me to create something special just for them. This time of year, we tend to do a little bit more of a one-of-a-kind thing."

Not only is Petrowski arranging the flowers, she also does her part to make sure the men ordering them are adding something extra special.

"When the guys come in I like to have them write their own note because I think that's really important and I think that the girls really like that," she said.

Significant others and hopeful singles aren't the only ones buying flowers for the holiday. Petrowski said moms are a popular recipient of blooms, too.

Even if you're a procrastinator who's waited until the last minute to pick up a bouquet, there's still hope.

"We'll be open all day on Valentine's," said Petrowski.
