Voter turnout expected to be low

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- City representatives said they're not surprised to see a low voter turnout during Tuesday's primary election.

The Wausau city clerk reported between 2% and 3% of voters headed to the polls.

Some said the youth vote, which many say propelled the 2008 elections, has tapered off, leaving few solid voters to pull their weight.

"It is a democracy," said Russ Schleicher, "which means we have to have input. But my primary reason for voting is that I like to complain. If you don't vote you have no right to complain."

Statewide turnout is only estimated to reach 10% of the eligible voters.
