Open enrollment going on

WISCONSIN (WAOW) -- The state's open enrollment for schools is underway.

Parents in Wisconsin can apply to send their children to districts outside the one they live in.

For a school district to consider allowing a student to transfer, the student must fill out an application.

The Nekoosa School District Superintendent says while open enrollment is necessary, it can make their job a little difficult.

"I have a positive and negative comment or thought on that. Positive, it's just like the business world. It certainly gives consumers a choice where it's most convenient and they think they can get the best quality of education. The downside is it sure makes it hard to budget some years." Nekoosa Superintendent Wayne Johnson said.

The Superintendent says open enrollment runs through the first three weeks of February.
