Almost time for Wis. anglers to take down shanties
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- It's almost time for Wisconsin's hard-core ice anglers to call it a season.
The state Department of Natural Resources is reminding anglers to start thinking about taking down their shanties. Anglers must remove their shelters from Wisconsin-Iowa boundary waters by Feb. 20, from Wisconsin-Minnesota boundary waters by March 1 and from Wisconsin-Michigan boundary waters by March 15.
Shanties must be off inland waters south of state Highway 64 by March 6. They must be off inland waters north of the highway by March 13.
Failure to meet the deadlines could mean a $263 forfeiture.
Anglers can still use portable shelters after those dates, but they must remove them daily.
