WAUSAU (WAOW) - Concussions are a hot topic in the sports community.  Experts share their knowledge with coaches, parents and athletes.

The clinic inside the Wausau West High School Auditorium is meant to inform what exactly is a concussion, how to evaluate it, and most importantly, what factors are used to determine when an athlete should return.

Former Badger and New York Jet standout Al Toon knows all too well about concussions.  His NFL career was cut short by them.

Al Toon/Former Badgers & Jets Receiver: "I feel it's pretty important that the public understands the seriousness of concussions, the potential long-term effects of post-concussion syndrome."

Toon served as the guest speaker.  He says he suffered at least nine concussions.

Other speakers included doctors, who focus on young athletes, as well as available treatments.

The event was sponsored by Wisconsin Valley Athletic Medicine.
