Wausau School District closes schools on Friday, February 18, 2011

The Wausau School District has received information from the Wausau Education Association that a significant number of District teachers will be absent from school tomorrow in response to Governor Walker's proposed changes in labor law. Due to concerns about these absences and the importance of ensuring a safe and secure environment for all our students, the District is forced to close its schools to students on Friday, February 18, 2011.

We regret having to make this decision, but with the significant number of teachers reporting absences for Friday, we cannot continue to ensure a safe school environment for all of our students. We do not have enough substitute teachers or administrators to cover the anticipated number of teacher absences.

Jefferson Elementary students scheduled to be at the Wausau School Forest on Thursday, February 17th and Friday, February 18th will return to their school this afternoon.

No classes will be held in the Wausau School District on Monday, February 21, 2011, as the District has a regularly scheduled professional growth and development day for staff.
