BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point splashed to the lead following the first of three days of competition at the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Championship that is being held at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
The defending conference champion Pointers compiled 256 points to surpass the second-place total of 247 points by UW-La Crosse. UW-Eau Claire is third with 242 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 130 points, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 67 points and UW-River Falls sixth with 52 points.
UW-Stevens Point's Beth Ann Abraham won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.14, while the Pointers' 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lisa Clemens, Jessica Nordstrom, Kelly Kading and Andrea Wagner produced a first-place time of 1:22.52.
UW-Eau Claire had a pair of individual champions in Nicole Dorvinen and Julia Olson. Dorvinen captured the 500-yard freestyle for the second straight year with a time of 5:05.19, while Olson was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.69.
UW-La Crosse's Rachel LaValley secured the three-meter diving crown with a score of 467.50 to become the fourth individual in WIAC history to win the event three consecutive years.
The Eagles' 400-yard medley relay unit of Abby Diehl, Danielle Ellingson, Taylor Smith and Katelyn Hartung were triumphant with a time of 3:51.99.
