DAKAR, Senegal (AP) -- Witnesses say a man has set himself on fire in front of the presidential palace in the West African nation of Senegal.
The man approached the palace with a bottle of paint thinner Friday, then threw it on himself before setting himself alight.
The reason for the immolation was not immediately clear, though it comes on the heels of similar protests in Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Mauritania and elsewhere.
Senegal is a moderate predominantly Muslim nation with one of the most established democracies in West Africa. But the country is facing its worst power outages in a generation and the cost of living has continue to spiral.
There also is growing discontent over octogenarian president Abdoulaye Wade's attempt to run for a third term.
