WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Wausau teachers catch the protester bug that's going around the state.

Wausau Public Schools closed Friday because of staff absences related to public employees protesting Governor Walker's bill.

In a release by the Wausau School District they say:

"We will not have adequate staff to safely and effectively deliver classroom instruction."

One parent says she understands the cause but doesn't like the action.

"As a parent it's kind of upsetting. I'm a stay at home mom. It's not so hard for me. It left a lot of parents struggling for daycare. I'm all for the teachers having rights and protesting their rights, but they need to do it on their own time, not the kid's time," parent Beth Plachetka said.

The superintendent says they don't know if and how they'll punish teachers who took an unapproved absence.
