CAMP DOUGLAS (WAOW)--Emotions ran high Friday night as members of the 724th Engineer Battalion returned to Wisconsin. Family members and friends packed Volk Field to welcome back loved ones.
Around 300 men and women finished up a tour of Iraq that began last April. They hail from Medford, Chippewa Falls, Superior and Hayward.
Friends and family screamed when the plan landed around 8:30 Friday night. Emotional reunions between mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, and loved ones followed.
"Just knowing my son's coming back, defending our country, defending our rights and just being the wonderful son that he's always been. I just look forward to seeing my baby, I guess," said Patrick Witek, father of one of the soldiers.
After last nights ceremony the soldiers were taken to Fort McCoy for demobilization.
They will be released to family members next week.
