Wis. Democrat says return to Capitol unlikely

MADISON (AP) -- A Wisconsin senator says he does not believe Senate Democrats will return to work unless Gov. Scott Walker shows a willingness to negotiate on his plan to effectively eliminate union rights for most public employees.

Sen. Jon Erpenbach of Middleton said Sunday he remains at a Chicago hotel. He says Senate Democrats scattered outside of Wisconsin had a conference call Saturday night and remain united in their tactic to try to slow down the bill.

He says the delay has allowed for the public to be informed about the stakes of Walker's plan. He says unions agreed to make concessions on health care and pension benefits and now it's time for Walker to back off his plan to take away their ability to collectively bargain for benefits and working conditions.
