WAUSAU (WAOW) -- If you're playing out in the snow this week, you might want to watch where you're aiming. In the city of Wausau, it's against city ordinance to throw snowballs.

Police said the point of the law is to keep people safe and hold them accountable for their actions.

"If your intent is to throw snowballs at somebody to harass them or possibly injure them, it clearly would be illegal," said Wausau Police Chief Jeff Hardel

Police said the most common issue they see is people throwing snowballs at cars, which could distract drivers and potentially cause accidents on already-slippery roadways.

The price you could pay for chucking an ice ball at an unsuspecting person or car? Police said it could be up to $200.
