MINNEAPOLIS (Press Release) - The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's basketball team are both ranked fourth in the country according to the latest D3Hoops.com poll.
For the men, it marks their first return to the top five of the poll since Week 4 (December 19th) when they were also ranked 4th.
The men, fresh off their third WIAC title in the past five seasons, climbed six spots from last week's poll where they were ranked 10th. They also received one first place vote.
Williams came in ranked number one, while Whitworth and Middlebury round out the top three.
The Pointer women remained at No. 4 this week in the polls as they remain in that spot for the third straight week.
The Pointer women are coming off a perfect WIAC Regular Season as they became just the sixth team in the history of the WIAC to go 16-0 in regular season play.
Thomas More, Amherst, and Hope rank ahead of the Pointers in this weeks voting.
Both teams will begin their postseason play this week as they are both taking part in the WIAC Tournament.
The Pointer women, the No. 1 seed in the WIAC Tournament, will play their first game Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Berg Gymnasium. They will be taking on the lowest seed remaining in the tournament after Wednesday's quarterfinal rounds.
The Pointer men are also the No. 1 seed and they will begin their play Thursday night at Bennett Court at 7 p.m. also taking on the lowest remaining seed from Tuesday's quarterfinal action.
