Ralliers meet in Merrill to voice opinions on budget bill

MERRILL (WAOW)--The budget repair bill is motivating people on both sides of the issue to get out and make their voices heard.

More than 100 people marched around the Lincoln County Courthouse Wednesday to show their frustration with the budget repair bill. AFSCME staff representative John Spiegelhoff led ralliers with a bullhorn shouting "What's disgusting? Union busting!" and "Kill the Bill."

Some union supporters traveled hours to attend the rally. People carried signs and brought canned food donations to give to a local food shelter in honor of the slogan "Can the Bill."

Around the corner, a smaller group of pro-Walker ralliers held signs to support the Governor. Bob Rajek, Chairman of the Lincoln County Republican Party said "Walker's been criticized quite a bit lately and we want people to see that there are some supporters up here in Merrill."

The rally ended around 5:30 PM. Both groups co-existed peacefully throughout the event.
