(WAOW) - Ten times, Wausau West had reached the state hockey tournament and 10 times they'd come up empty in their hopes for a state title.

Trip number 11 changed all that.

The Warriors manhandled Middleton en route to their first ever state title win. Sunday, friends and family welcome them home at Wausau West.

For head coach Pete Susens, the feeling still hasn't sunk in. After becoming the state's all-time wins leader earlier this year, Susens is thrilled to finally have his first championship, but says it's about more than a trophy.

The Central Wisconsin Storm were also welcomed home Sunday after their runner up finish in the girls' state championship.

Despite coming up short in their hopes for a state title, the Storm will go down in history for their quadruple overtime game against Saint Croix.

It's the longest game in state finals history, boys or girls, and something the Storm are proud to have been part of.

A team that knows a thing or two about state championships is the Wisconsin Rapids wrestling team.

The Raiders won their third straight title yesterday and 15th in the last 17 years. They say it's that tradition that has made them so good and what they hope will keep them on top for years to come.
