Senate Democrats don't plan to return Tuesday

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker's spokesman says the lines of communication remain open with the 14 Democratic state senators who fled to Illinois rather than vote on a bill taking away nearly all collective bargaining rights from public workers.

But Senate Democrats said Tuesday there has been no contact that they know of with the governor's office since he rejected a call for a meeting with Senate Minority Leader Mark Miller on Monday.

Democratic Sen. Fred Risser says senators weren't coming back on Tuesday and when they will return is a day-to-day decision.

The Senate was meeting without them to begin imposing $100 fines for each day they miss.

Democratic Sen. Jon Erpenbach says the fines will not motivate them to come back.
