MILWAUKEE (AP) - A Milwaukee girl has admitted that she fatally stabbed her step-grandfather in 2009 for pouring her milk down the drain.
The 15-year-old girl was originally charged in adult court with first-degree intentional homicide and would have faced life in prison if convicted.
Instead, prosecutors agreed Tuesday to send her case to juvenile court, where the maximum penalty is imprisonment until age 25. She admitted to the charge, which is the juvenile equivalent of pleading guilty.
The girl was sentenced to Department of Corrections supervision for one to 10 years, depending on several factors.
Defense attorney Robin Dorman says the girl and her family are relieved the case is resolved.
The Associated Press is no longer identifying the girl because she was convicted in juvenile court, where identities are confidential.
