Staffing survey reports hiring on the rise

WAUSAU (WAOW)--The latest unemployment figures show more people are working in Wisconsin. The state's unemployment rate now stands at 7.4% and staffing experts say they see that job growth reflected in our area.

A Manpower survey says more positions are becoming available, and openings should continue to increase through June.

However, that doesn't mean all local job searchers are finding work easily. Joyce LeDuc has been looking for a job since August.  "I've filled out I'll say close to 80 applications since last year," she says.

LeDuc utilizes the Marathon County Job Center and her home computer to apply for openings. She says it's tough, even for someone with two associates degrees and on-the-job experience.

"I would accept pretty much any work someone offered me," she says.

A recent survey by staffing firm Manpower shows hiring outlooks are good, with more companies looking for new employees.

Area Business Development Manager Chris Charewicz says there are plenty of industries hiring including manufacturing and transportation. "The hiring for this quarter is up over the last three months so that's even better."

Manpower provides job search assistance free of charge to job-seekers. Charewicz claims more women like LeDuc are coming in for help.

"I'm seeing more women in the 30 to 50 age group coming through the doors," she admits.

Despite the positive outlook of Manpower's survey, for people like LeDuc, it's still frustrating to be without work. LeDuc says she's not giving up hope and will keep trying until she lands a position.
