WAUSAU (WAOW) -- As things heat up in Madison, Governor Scott Walker takes his message to the state. He visits the Wausau Airport to defend the Senate's vote on the budget repair bill.

He said both state and local governments will run better on a balanced budget.

"The people have overwhelmingly told me, and they've told others in the Capitol, that they want us to get working and they want us to get moving forward and this allows us to do just that," said Walker.

He added that he's reached out to the missing senators repeatedly and hopes they come back soon to fulfill their legislative responsibilities.

"I think the average citizen in the state, no matter where they stand on the issue, thinks it's a trick that 14 people could be getting a paycheck for 3 weeks for doing nothing," said Walker.

He also defended the Senate Republican's maneuver, saying they followed the law and last night's bill didn't fit the narrow definition of what requires a super-majority in the Senate.
