MERRILL (WAOW)-- The Merrill School Board President says the board should be able to cancel tier three and tier four cuts at the end of the month.

School officials say they were able to collectively bargain with three separate unions to ratify employee contracts and extend them for an additional year.

Merrill School Board members met Thursday afternoon in a last-minute session to prepare for potential changes they face under Governor Walker's Bill.

They made changes to employee healthcare plans, pension contributions and salaries.

Bruce Anderson, the district's assistant superintendent, says they would not have been able to make the changes so quickly without everyone's participation.

"It's a matter of everybody coming together and trying to do what's best for our school. We're looking forward to those outcomes. It will give us the ability to recall many of the people that are on layoff," said Anderson.
