Roommate of victim testifies in sweat lodge case

CAMP VERDE, Ariz. (AP) -- The roommate of a woman who died in an Arizona sweat lodge ceremony is testifying Friday in a self-help author's manslaughter trial.

Beverley Bunn lasted the entire two hours in the October 2009 ceremony led by James Arthur Ray. Three people, including her roommate Kirby Brown, died following the ceremony and 18 others were hospitalized.

Bunn has said that some participants found themselves physically and mentally unable to tend to those around them as the ceremony ended.

She has said that Ray did nothing to help those who became ill or passed out.

Ray has pleaded not guilty to the deaths that his attorneys say were a tragic accident.

Prosecutors say that Ray conditioned the participants to trust his judgment over their own and recklessly caused the deaths.
