Mary Lillian Raschka

Mary Lillian Raschka, our Mother was like a precious rose, always blooming, forever caring, always giving and sharing.

Surrounded by her family and those who loved her, Mary Lillian, 89, of Custer, peacefully passed into eternal life at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital on Friday, March 11, 2011.

Mary Lillian, a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, was born May 19, 1921, in Stevens Point, to the late Peter and Mary (Zurawski) Jurgella. She attended area schools and worked in Stevens Point at various jobs in her early life.

She was married to Joseph A. Raschka on May 29, 1939, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Joseph died Dec. 15, 1984, at their home on Esker Road. After their marriage, they settled on a farm on Golla Road while raising eight children. They moved to the farm on County Road J, farming there until retirement.

Mary Lillian especially enjoyed family gatherings and working cross-word puzzles. She was a wonderful cook and loved to treat her family, friends and neighbors, willingly sharing her talents with all.

She was active in her church and was an honorary member of St. Mary's and St. Stanislaus Rosary Societies, generously cooking or baking for numerous parish endeavors.

Mary Lillian always included the Blessed Virgin Mary in her life and that devotion helped her pass into her eternal life. That faith and compassion was passed on to her family and all who knew her. She will be remembered as a simple person of faith and who always put others first.

She was the last member surviving of that generation of both the Jurgella and Raschka families.

Memories of Mary Lillian will always be cherished by her survivors, including two sons, Chester (Rita) and Joseph (Karen); five daughters, Rose Stremkowski, Susan (Daniel) Stremkowski, Annette Hulce, Sandy (Randy) Niles and Mary (Noel) Olszewski; and her daughter-in-law, Colleen Raschka.

Mary Lillian's love of family was evidenced by her close relationship with her 32 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren who shared their lives with her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; their infant son, Daniel; their son, Harold; and their son-in-law, Phillip Stremkowski.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the physicians and staff at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital. They also wish to express their special gratitude to the Rev. Dennis Lynch, Rev. Rajen Anandan, Rev. George Thayikuzhithottu, Julitta Szczepanski and St. Mary's parishioners for all their prayers and guidance. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary Lillian's name to St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Burial will follow in Guardian Angel Cemetery, Stevens Point.
