STEVENS POINT (WAOW)-- At a time when finding a job seems harder than ever, local veteran's employment representative Gary Albrecht says veterans make strong candidates.

"Veterans are a highly-trained group of individuals, instructed in teamwork philosophies, and especially the younger veterans have a high level of expertise "

But in spite of those advantages, one local veteran says it's still rough out there.

"There's a lot of people out there looking for jobs.  I think it's everybody kind of for themselves," said Army National Guard Veteran, Robert Konkel.

This Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Stevens Point Airport is hosting a job and benefits fair for veterans.  The event won't just focus on finding a job, it will also promote life after service.

"There will be advice and information on veteran's benefits, healthcare, home loans, and other veteran issues that they may have an interest in," said Albrecht.

Among the event's booths-- the organization, Dry Hootch.

Executive director, Winton Miller, says while soldiers should take advantage of the career opportunities presented at the fair, he hopes they will also find organizations like his  that provide a safe haven for troops transitioning to civilian life.

"This will be a place for them to come, a safe place,  where they can say whatever they want.  A place where they don't have to worry about the reaction of the patrons, because we're there to support the veteran."

An important message during a time when adjusting to civilian life and finding a job can be  stressful.
