Maine author takes poke at 'stooge' governors

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) -- Stephen King is calling the governors of Wisconsin, Florida and his home state of Maine the three stooges.

In a rally last week in Sarasota, Fla., supporting education, unions and veterans, the horror author and outspoken Democrat compared Maine Gov. Paul LePage, Florida's Rick Scott and Wisconsin's Scott Walker, all Republicans, to "Larry, Curly and Moe. That's what we've got here."

All three governors have drawn fire from unions over pensions and, in Wisconsin, state worker union rights.

A spokesman for LePage responded Monday that Maine's proud of King and his ability to terrify, "but his novels are no match for Maine's business climate." Spokesman Dan Demeritt said LePage is trying to reduce the costs of doing business in Maine that will create jobs.
