WAUSAU (WAOW) -- A new resource is open to learn more about Native American culture.

Leaders of the Forest County Potawatomi Foundation presented a $15,000 check to the American Indian Resource Center. That kicked off the center's ribbon cutting ceremony in downtown Wausau.

Leaders at the new center said they want to preserve Native American culture in the future.

"A lot of our culture is handed down from generation to generation," said American Indian Resource Center director Dylan Prescott. "That's what we plan on doing, keeping our people together."

Planned programs include showcasing traditional Native American presentations in the community, as well as providing counseling services for teens and domestic abuse victims. Members of six different Indian tribes live in Wisconsin.
