DNR holds meeting to discuss Marathon Co. deer population

The Wisconsin DNR held a meeting to talk to hunters about the Marathon County deer population.

The annual meeting gives hunters a chance to meet with a wildlife biologist to ask questions about the deer population.

DNR officials say Marathon County's deer harvest from last year was particularly good.

Officials also addressed concerns over Chronic Wasting Disease affecting Wisconsin deer.

"We've been kind of lucky here in Wisconsin in that our prevalence rates of the disease aren't nearly as high as they are in some of the western states," Cortney Schaefer, a wildlife biologist said, "and our deer get shot at such a younger age that a lot of times we don't even see the symptoms of the disease."

If you have any questions about Chronic Wasting Disease or the deer population.. you're encouraged to contact your local wildlife biologist.
