WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) -- Students in Wisconsin Rapids turn a March pass-time into a way to help those in Japan.

Kids at Wisconsin Rapids Junior High School sell NCAA college basketball brackets.

Teachers and students can buy a bracket by donating at least $2.

The Ambassadors group at the school organized the fundraiser. The group will send all the money to the Red Cross relief efforts in Japan.

"It definitely feels good. When I first heard about the idea, I definitely knew it could make a big impact on people's lives, and it was just something I wanted to be a part of," 9th grader Cal Thomas said.

The winner of the bracket receives a $25 Itunes gift card.

Students say the first day they sold $120 in brackets. They were expecting to sell about $200 overall.
