Madison, WI (AP) -- A Republican lawmaker was caught in a crowd of protesters earlier this month, but at least one demonstrator has since shown him some love.
Madison police say Sen. Glenn Grothman of West Bend was heckled by demonstrators Tuesday as he entered a downtown M&I Bank where the group was protesting. As he left, an unidentified man gave him a hug. Police say Grothman "did not appear to enjoy the embrace" and managed to "squirm away."
The man says he didn't know Grothman but hugged him because he "loved him" and because Grothman was wearing a suit. Police told the man to keep his hands off those "who do not want to be touched."
Grothman has been a vocal critic of the pro-union protesters, at one point calling them "slobs."
