MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Cody Hanke had 24 points and nine rebounds and keyed a late 11-0 run as Marathon defeated Grantsburg 52-43 to win the Division 4 title Saturday at the WIAA state boys' basketball tournament.
The senior center passed out of a double-team to Cedric Lechleitner, who scored in the lane to give the Red Raiders a 43-41 lead with 3:39 left. The basket was the first of five straight shots made by Marathon (27-1), which was 6-of-7 from the field in the fourth quarter.
Brody Hurtis hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 41 for the Red Raiders, and then Hanke took over. After the assist to Lechleitner, Hanke scored in the paint and had a breakaway dunk in front of the Marathon student section, prompting a roar from the crowd.
Lechleitner and Koleman Schilling each added buckets as the Red Raiders took a 49-41 lead with 1:47 left.
Brent Myers scored 19 points and Trevor Thompson had 18 for Grantsburg (22-6), which was just 3-of-19 from the field in the second half, and missed its last eight shots of the game.
