(WAOW) - As the boys' basketball season wraps up in Madison, the state's girls try to punch their ticket to the state tournament next weekend.

Newman Catholic, the defending champions in division four faced Saint Mary Central in its search to return to the Kohl Center.

Playing in division five this year, the Cardinals had little trouble, holding the Zephyrs to six points in the first quarter en route to a 79-21 win.

Also in division five, the only team to beat Newman this season, Prentice, also had its sights set on a trip to state. The Buccaneers fought off a late Siren rally to win 55-43.

In division four, Edgar kept it close with Algoma through the first period, but the Wolves proved to be too much, dropping the Wildcats 88-58.
