AURBURNDALE, Fla. – The third-ranked UW-Stevens Point baseball team picked up a pair of victories on Sunday afternoon, defeating Fontbonne (Mo.) by identical scores of 3-1 on day two of the team's spring trip to Florida. The victories were the first and second of the season for the Pointers.
Cody Koback picked up the win on the mound for the Pointers, throwing five innings of three hit ball, allowing Fontbonne's only run while striking out six. Ryan Iverson picked up the save, closing the door with two scoreless innings, striking out four.
Offensively in game one, Koback drove in two runs as part of a three-run third inning for the Pointers. As a team the Pointers tallied six hits with the wind blowing in from right field.
In game two, junior Eric Van Beck tallied his first victory of the year, throwing six innings of four hit baseball, striking out three. Iverson again came in and closed the door, securing the save as he struck out one batter in the ninth.
Iverson also had a two run single in the fourth, turning a one run deficit into a 2-1 lead for UWSP. Jordan Rennicke added the final run of the day for the Pointers with a two out RBI sinle in the fifth. In game two, the Pointers tallied nine hits, all singles.
