UNDATED (WAOW)--On the average people across the country are getting bigger and that extra weight adds up in places like airplanes and buses when you sit shoulder to shoulder.
The Federal Transit Authority says they may have to rewrite safety rules on buses raising the weight of the average rider from 150 pounds to 175.
The current guidelines date back 50 years. Now the FDA says the average man weighs 195 pounds and a woman is 165.
The proposed passenger increase would still be less than that of airplanes which figures 190-195 pounds and the Coast Guard at 185 for boats and ferries.
