RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW) - It may be the first full day of spring.. but winter still has its grip on our area.  Granite Peak Ski Area has a few more weeks left in its season.

The operations manager says they have a good snow base.. so they'll stay open until April 3rd.

She says they had a wonderful season.. setting a single-day visitor record.. and welcoming skiers from all over the Midwest.

Vicki Baumann/Granite Peak Operations Manager: "We've been seeing a lot of people coming from Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Indianapolis, from quite a ways away."

Snowmobile trails have closed in many parts of our area.

One business owner says he noticed a different trend with riders this year.

He says riders opted more for food than beer.. while making a pitstop.

Brian Tesmer/Arrow Sports Club Co-Owner: "You have to look at the fuel prices too and the cost of a new machine. I mean everything is up and the way the economy is nowadays, money is tight."

The Arrow Sports Club co-owner says he thought the number of snowmobile riders that dropped in.. was about the same as any recent year.
