Marathon and Merrill leaders consider joint charter school

MARATHON CITY (WAOW)-- Leaders from two area school districts are considering whether a joint charter school could help ease budget issues.

Marathon School District Superintendent Rick Parks says the Merrill and Marathon districts are looking into turning Maple Grove Elementary in Hamburg into a charter school that would be shared by both districts.

He says sharing staff and resources could be a win-win situation.

"I would really hope a collaboration is something our schools would look into to move forward in a different format," said Parks.

If district leaders decide to move forward with the charter school, Parks says the new curriculum would not be instilled until the Fall of 2012.

Community members with questions can contact the Superintendent's office at either school district.
