WAUSAU (WAOW)-- This News release came into the newsroom from the Wausau School District:

On Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at a regularly-scheduled, all-school Winter Sports Recognition Assembly, Wausau East High School Principal Dr. Bradley J. Peck was astonished to learn that he had been chosen as the 2011 Wisconsin High School Principal of the Year.

Machell Schwarz, Principal at DeForest High School and President of the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA), surprised Peck with the announcement in front of his entire school, his family, and District administrative colleagues.

Dr. Peck has been Principal at Wausau East High School for the past 15 years and was selected because of his vision of working to create a high school where each and every student feels that they belong and that someone cares about them as an individual.

Peck was nominated for this prestigious award by his colleagues, including Merrill High School Principal Shannon Murray.

The Wisconsin Principal of the Year program is coordinated by the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators and the two national professional organizations for principals: the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the National Association of Elementary School Principals. The Principal of the Year Selection Committee is made up of representatives from the Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Association of School Boards, Wisconsin Education Association Council, the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators, the Wisconsin PTA, and a former National Distinguished Principal.

Peck will join the Wisconsin 2011 Elementary and Middle School Principals of the Year in Washington, D.C. in October at the Principal of the Year Symposium to network with peers from other states, share best practices, learn about national education issues, and contribute to solutions to complex problems.

He will also be recognized at the AWSA conference in winter 2012. The Wisconsin Principal of the Year program is supported by AWSA Corporate Partners. The national programs are supported by MetLife and VALIC.
