"Superfortress" to visit EAA gathering this summer

OSHKOSH (AP) -- The world's only airworthy B-29 "Superfortress" is making a visit to Oshkosh this summer.

The Boeing bomber will appear at the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual AirVenture convention.

The "Superfortress," is perhaps best known for dropping the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945. But the plane that will appear in Oshkosh was used for weapons tests in the 1960s and first flown in 1971.

It's owned by the Commemorative Air Force.

The EAA AirVenture will be held July 25-31. The B-29 will fly during the afternoon airshow July 29 as part of the daylong veterans' salute. It last appeared at AirVenture in 1995.
