WAUSAU (WAOW)--Those serving their country and honored for bravery will be remember Friday on Medal Of Honor Day. The state legislature voted to make it an official observance two years ago.

One of the Medal of Honor  recipients is a Wausau native.

A marker stands outside the Marathon County Courthouse in honor of Wausau native Lieutenant Jerome Sudut (sa-doot). The military recognized him for bravery during Korean War.

Scott Berger of the Marathon County Veterans Department says, "Second Lt. Sudut crashed through the enemy lines and took fire from the enemy and was killed but because of his actions many in his platoon survived"

Sudut's medal now rests in the Wisconsin Veterans Museum in Madison.

61 Wisconsinites  have received the medal of honor.
