Police: teen shot at Indiana middle school; fellow student in custody

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- Indiana state police say a 15-year-old middle school student is in custody and a fellow student has been airlifted to a hospital after a shooting this morning.

Police say the victim is "assumed to be in serious condition."

The incident took place at the Martinsville West Middle School about 20 minutes before classes were to begin. Police say they don't have a motive, but the suspect had been suspended or expelled from school earlier this week.

WTHR-TV in Indianapolis says police believe the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute that started at a school dance last weekend.

Authorities say they believe the shooter acted alone. But all schools in the district are under lockdown as a precaution.

Martinsville is about 30 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
