Walker appoints wife of former governor to commission

MADISON (AP) -- Republican Gov. Scott Walker has appointed the wife of a former GOP governor to a state labor commission.

Laurie McCallum is married to former Gov. Scott McCallum, who took over the governorship in 2002 when his predecessor, Gov. Tommy Thompson, left to join the Bush administration.

Walker said Friday he appointed Laurie McCallum to the state Labor and Industry Review Commission.

She says she's grateful that Walker would have enough confidence in her to appoint her.

She has been involved with the commission for years.

The Wisconsin State Journal says McCallum has been a review attorney with the commission for the past eight years. Before that, she served as a LIRC commissioner and as chair of the state Personnel Commission for 13 years.
