Voter Turnout Predictions

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Even though there seems to be extra interest in the upcoming state Supreme Court race, the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board is predicting a typical level of voter turnout.

The GAB says it expects 20 percent of eligible voters to cast a ballot next week.

That's about in the range of other spring elections with contested state Supreme Court races. GAB spokesman Kevin Kennedy says turnout in the past decade has ranged from 18 to 21 percent.

The April 5 election features local races involving school-board officials and circuit court judges. But the prominent statewide race is between incumbent Justice David Prosser and challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg.

The conservative-leaning Prosser has the name recognition, but opponents are trying to link him with Republican Gov. Scott Walker's contentious collective bargaining bill.
