RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- Racine County deputies say they've arrested a driver who was transporting a load of marijuana that weighed as much as a pair of bowling balls.

The sheriff's department says a deputy stopped the man Wednesday because his vehicle's registration was matched to an unlicensed owner.

The deputy smelled a strong odor of raw marijuana coming from a large rubber tub in the back seat. A search revealed 28 pounds of marijuana with a street value of about $50,000.

The vehicle was taken into custody. After a search warrant was obtained, authorities found hidden compartments in the dashboard that were modified in a manner typically used to conceal contraband.

The driver was a 35-year-old Milwaukee man. He was arrested on tentative charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
