Wisconsin officials bracing for spring flooding

MADISON (AP) -- Emergency officials in Wisconsin say they are preparing for possibly damaging flooding later this spring, with a half-million sandbags already in position.

Officials with Wisconsin Emergency Management released a statement Friday saying they are working with their local, state and federal counterparts to keep residents safe as the rivers rise.

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for the Rock, Fox and Mississippi Rivers in Wisconsin. Melting snow and any heavy precipitation could result in major flooding.

Emergency officials say they have more than 500,000 sandbags position Waukesha, Green Lake and Buffalo counties as well as at Camp Douglas.

The emergency management department also has a mobile command center, a communications trailer and a portable light/communications tower ready to deploy.
