National fireworks convention comes to Stevens Point
STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- Members of the National Fireworks Association visited Stevens Point today to plan their upcoming convention.
Joe Bartolotta is the man behind the convention. He currently serves as their president but he was around to help start the NFA back in 1994.
Bartolotta grew up in Wisconsin, but health problems forced him to move to a warmer climate in San Diego, where he runs his own firework studio putting on large displays and lighting up the skies for movies. His love for pyrotechnics runs in his blood. Bartolotta tells Newsline 9 he comes from a long line of firework fanatics.
Bartolotta said, "I was born into the business. My family has a fireworks store here in Wisconsin as a matter of fact."
And now he is back in Wisconsin, planning the upcoming national convention in September.
The Holiday Inn already sold out for the entire weekend, forcing organizers to send people to other hotels around the area.
"We've never had a hotel sell out this early," said Bartolotta. "I'm going to predict 1,200 to 1,300 people."
That means visitors from all over the world, who will be adding to the local economy by eating local food and shopping in local stores. Organizers will also be putting on a public fireworks display at the Golden Sands Speedway.
The fireworks convention runs from September 7-10 at the Stevens Point Holiday Inn.
If you are a fellow firework fanatic or just looking for some extra fun you can register for the convention at the door.
