Local reaction to regional construction

TOMAHAWK(WAOW)- Springtime brings baseball, warmer weather and construction.

In Tomahawk construction crews are working on replacing the 4th street bridge. Locals say this causes a major inconvenience.

Doretta Hess lives in Tomahawk. She deals with the disturbance of the 4th street bridge closure on a day-to-day basis. Hess says, "Everyday I have to go to the other side of the bridge and my daughter works at a local market and she has to drive all the way around at two in the morning."

Hess adds her daughter's five minute drive to work has turned into a nightmare, adding 12 additional miles on less than perfect road.

Bridge construction started back on October first and workers expect to finish in August.

Marathon County crews in Marshfield will start reconstruction of 4 1/2 miles of Wisconsin 13 on April 4. Crews plan on closing the road between 26th road and Apple street. Drivers can take Wisconsin 97 and Wisconsin 153 instead. Workers expect to finish the 12-million-dollar project in September.

In Portage County crews begin work April 4 to replace the bridge deck on the County DB overpass and place a concrete overlay on the Maple Drive overpass. The County DB overpass will be closed. The Maple Drive overpass will remain open to one lane of traffic until July.

WisDot recommends drivers slow down and be careful when driving through construction zones. You can get updated traveler information by calling 511 before you leave home.
