Republicans quick to respond to Obama re-election bid

WASHINGTON (AP) -- He says he doesn't agree with President Barack Obama on everything -- but he respects and trusts him.

The man, identified as Ed from North Carolina, is one of the supporters appearing in a video in which Obama is launching his 2012 re-election campaign.

Obama, in an email announcing his candidacy, says lasting change doesn't come "quickly or easily" -- and that his supporters need to protect what he calls "the progress we've made."

Republicans have been quick to react to Obama's announcement that he's launching his re-election bid for next year.

The Republican National Committee is circulating a research document accusing Obama of failing to lead on the budget and entitlement spending.

And GOP candidate Tim Pawlenty has released a video that asks, "How can America win the future, when we're losing the present?"
